I went to the States to pursue higher education
at age of 17, on myself. In a land 10 times of the size of HK, but less than
half of the population. I felt lonely, helpless, and unease in my new
surroundings. Language barrier and lacked of support network of friends and
family frustrated and demoralized me. However, being aboard alone for some
period taught me to interact and relate to new people. I learned how approach
and deal with diverse individuals. Also, to be sensitive toward people with different
backgrounds. The experience strengthens my character in ways that is professionally
and socially beneficial for years to come. I look forward bringing this moral strengthen
with me to HKU.
From HKU I look to
gain a unique multi-cultural learning experience, interacting with people of
all backgrounds. Hearing their insights, sharing mine, understand how to do
business with them in and outside of the class. I expect to gain a behind-the-scenes
look into international companies and analyze their strategic and operational
moves, meeting industry leaders in person. In addition, impressed by the wide
elective courses selection offered in the concentration of Fintech, China
markets and Management, I would like to equip myself for the ever-growing,
ever-changing industry of Finance.
I strongly believe that
pursing an MBA at HKU is the first stepping-stone in my career plan. My
fascination with business, direct interaction with clients, strategic overview,
and the view of a company as provider of products that meet customer needs has
motivated me to stay on the Sales role for the past 8 years. Both my current
and previous position in Relationship Management in Standard Chartered Bank and
Clearstream Banking SA requires self-discipline, ambition, people skills and endurance as of an entrepreneur.
This MBA program would take me to an advance level – management. I look forward
to improving my ‘soft skills’ by taking classes like ‘how to lead….’ And ‘…..’.
I believe great skill comes from hands on experience and practical cases. I can
see such forgiving-nurturing environment from HKU.
More than being
located in my beloved hometown, HKU is the place that piqued my interest in postgraduate
study. HKU is the exemplary learning experience. Mostly importantly, I’m ready
to embark on the new chapter of my life, with you, at HKU.
